Dr. Joseph G. Tront is a professor in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech where he teaches and performs research in the areas of cybersecurity, integrated circuit design and engineering education. He has been on the faculty since 1978, has served in various capacities related to Virginia Tech athletics, and was a college football official for 30 years. In 2010 he was awarded the W.S. Pete White chair for Innovation in Engineering Education for his distinguished record of practicing and providing leadership in the advanced use of educational technology in engineering teaching and learning. He was an assistant dean in the VT College of Engineering from 1991-2000 and has been a visiting scholar at the University of California at Berkeley as well as at Microsoft Research in Redmond. He is very active in the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers where he is chairman of the Panel of Magazine and Newsletter Editors leading 37 editors-in-chief
